Health Insurance Estimates

The Census Bureau produces estimates of health insurance coverage for the U.S. , states, and counties every year.

  • Since 1987, national and state estimates are produced from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS)
  • Since July 2005, the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program provides model-based estimates of health insurance coverage for state and counties. Experimental estimates for counties and states for 2000 are produced for:
    • Total population with and without health insurance coverage
    • Children under age 18 with and without health insurance coverage.
